Acceptable use

What a buddy
may not be pointed at.

Plainer words. The licence sections are the operative text.

The Acceptable Use Policy is sections 2.11 to 2.20 of the Licence, in full — you do not have to fetch anything to know what it says. This page is the restatement of those sections in plainer words, and it is complete: the ten points below cover §2.11 to §2.20, one for one, each citing the section it restates. It is not a draft and it does not stand in for a document still to come. If the two ever differ, the licence sections govern (§2.10).

One thing named here is still outstanding, and stays named until it lands: the provider-policy register required by §2.15 is not yet published. It arrives at this same address. The version you agreed to is the one recorded against your purchase — we do not swap terms out from under a signature.

The short version

A buddy is a resident on a machine you control, working for your business. It acts on instruction, and the instructions are yours. Do not aim it at anything you would not put your own name to.

1Nothing unlawful. No fraud, no money laundering, no sanctions or export-control breaches, no malware, no breaking into systems, no infringing anyone's intellectual property. Licence §2.11

2Do not harm people with it. No threats, harassment, stalking, doxxing, defamation or hate-based targeting; nothing promoting suicide, self-harm or disordered eating; no non-consensual intimate content; no sexually explicit content. Licence §2.12

3No spam. No bulk unsolicited messaging, no cold outreach at volume, no purchased or scraped lists, no rotating content or sender identity to slip past filters. Writing to people who asked to hear from you is not spam and is not restricted. Licence §2.13

4Do not use it to break another service's rules. No scraping against a site's terms, robots directives or rate limits; no defeating paywalls, logins or CAPTCHAs; no holding an account in someone else's name; no evading a ban. Licence §2.14

5Your model providers' policies apply too. You hold the Anthropic and OpenAI accounts, so their usage policies bind you directly. They may forbid things this page never mentions, they change without us, and breaking them can cost you the account your buddy runs on. Read them. Licence §2.15 · the register of which policies we have read, and when, is not yet published

6Nothing that touches children. Adults and business use only, no under-18s. Do not put a child's personal data into its memory, aim it at children as an audience, or build it into anything aimed at children. Never content that exploits, endangers or sexualises a minor, AI-generated or not. This one is a severe breach. Licence §2.16, §9.6

7No regulated advice without the licence for it. A buddy is a business builder, not a lawyer, doctor, accountant, tax or financial adviser, broker or therapist, and you may not hold it out as one. No tailored professional advice to third parties unless a suitably licensed professional genuinely reviews and issues it. No automated high-stakes decisions about people — credit, employment, housing, insurance, education, healthcare, essential services, law enforcement, migration — without meaningful human review. Licence §2.17, §11.1

8No impersonation, no deception. Do not impersonate a person or a company, including us; do not use someone's likeness or voice without consent; do not present its output as written by a named person who neither wrote nor reviewed it. A buddy must never deny being an AI to a person who asks. Licence §2.18

9No reselling, cloning or training another AI on it. The prompts, seat charters, memory schema and the rest of the protected design may not be handed to any other AI system as training data, context, retrieval corpus, evaluation set or prompt — including by pasting them into another assistant. Licence §2.19, and §2.2 to §2.7

10You are responsible for what you tell it to do. For your instructions, for your named users' instructions, and for the outputs you act on or send onward — as if you had done those things yourself. If you learn a buddy has been used in breach of this, tell us promptly. Licence §2.20

Changes to this policy

We may update the acceptable use policy on thirty (30) days' written notice, or immediately where the law or a model provider's policy requires it. If you do not accept an update, your remedy is to cancel under §8.6 with no cancellation fee. Continued use after the notice period is acceptance.

If we think you have crossed a line

We tell you, in writing, what we think happened, and give you a chance to answer before we suspend anything — except where the law or immediate harm to someone else requires us to move first. Your data stays yours and stays where it is; suspension is not deletion. Termination and the data-export window are Licence §9.
